Proposal
To ensure that I complete this task to the best of my ability I will make sure I manage my time effectively and efficiently. To do this I will create a Gantt chart to record what tasks need to be done, when they need to be done and when they need to be in. This will help me keep on top of all of my work. After that I will create a blog on blogger.com, this will help me record all of my work so that none of it gets lost and I stay up to date.
To determine what target audience I will aim my magazine at I will create a survey. This will help me research what people like about music magazines and then putting that in my magazine. According to my survey my magazine will need to be distributed once a week and cost between £2 and £3.
The result of the survey has helped me establish the audience profile for my magazine. I will aim my magazine at every social economic group. The kind of people I will aim my magazine at will be Mainstreamers and individuals. This is because mainstreamers are the biggest group of people in the market also I will include some different bands that not many people know for the individuals. Most of the people like rock and indie music, so I will make the genre of my magazine indie rock. I will aim it at 16-25 year old students by having young popular bands.
For my images I will use Photoshop to manipulate them so they will be appropriate for the magazine.

Demographic profile of MOJO magazine
deconstruction of NME magazine
As opposed to MOJO magazine, NME has gone for a more conventional style having everything in lines and boxes and having the main image not covering everything up. The main image is of ‘Panic! At the Disco.’ It is a MLS. The lead of the band is positioned directly in the middle of the magazine suggesting that he is the most important, with the rest of the band positioned behind him. They are all looking at the audience giving it a more direct approach. This engages the audience making them more interested. They are all dressed in black leather which is associating with bikers which is seen as cool. They all have short spiky hair in a kind of EMO style. All of the members of the band have a different colour around their eyes; this is used as a statement, saying that they are original and different.
The mast head NME is unconventionally small. It is positioned at the top left hand corner of the magazine. The fact that is small makes you feel that magazine doesn’t need to write their name too big because if you have a musical brain you will already know it. It is in a bold sans serif font making it easier to read. It is red and white making it easier to recognise.
The main cover line is about Panic! At the Disco, it is written in a sans serif font with a red shadow. It then has a quote, it uses Stars to cover up the swear word, this makes people think the magazine is cool because they are breaking the rules. It has three other cover lines, they are each done in a different design to make them more interesting and eye catching. In the top right hand corner it has ‘New Pixies album’ then it says ‘exclusive story.’ The fact its exclusive makes it more interesting to read, making you feel that you are the first one to read about it. In the bottom middle of the page it says ‘Fratellis explosion’ and ‘Kicks off, NME rock and roll tour.’ The word ‘explosion’ suggests that the fratellis were amazing. There is a picture of the lead guitarist of the fratellis. It is a MLS of him playing the guitar. This picture looks very cool and interesting and makes you feel like you want to be there.
On the right hand side it has names of different artists. It says ‘plus’ meaning that they have given us all that they have, but because they care about their audience they have given us more.
Bellow the mast head it says ‘574 GIGS UK’s biggest guide’ this tells you that it is the best magazine too read to find out where artists are playing.
Like MOJO magazine the main colours used are red, black, white and also blue. Black is seen as a cool colour and is associated with music. Red means danger, it is also a multi-sex colour so it is suitable for both genders. White is a cool, calming colour, it is very bright and makes everything stand out. The blue in the back ground gives a little bit of colour to the magazine making it look fun.
This is quite a conventional music magazine, what makes it unique is its use of colour, structure and lack of information making you want to open it and read more.
deconstruction of MOJO magazine

The main picture of Iggy Pop from Iggy and the Stooges is the main focus point in the magazine. He is positioned directly in the middle of the magazine holding a micro phone stand, looking into the distance. It is a MS that looks like it was taken from a low angle suggesting that he is performing at a gig. The way he is looking off into the distance implies that he doesn’t care, he is ‘too good’ to look you in the face. Also it adds to the ‘gig; affect. His facial expression looks slightly arrogant and bored which is ‘cool.’ People find it exciting to have a picture of a rebel rock star on the front of a magazine because it is interesting.
The ‘O’ and ‘J’ of the mast head is covered by Iggy Pop. This suggests that the magazine doesn’t need to show us their whole name, because they are so well known. The mast head takes up about 20% of the front cover, it is in a friendly bold sans serif. It also has the words ‘Music magazine’ slightly covered up as well saying that you should know about the music magazine.
The main cover line is about Iggy and the stooges. It written in a sans serif font, it looks slightly worn at the edges giving it a rock and roll look, also implying that the band have been in trouble and have lived rebellious life styles. It says ‘return of Americas ultimate rock and roll delinquents.’ Firstly the word delinquents suggest they are trouble makers and don’t play buy the rules. Because they are the ‘ultimate rock and roll delinquents’ tells the readers that they are the best and always will be.
The other cover line titles are written in sans serif with a red box around each word. It looks like they have just stuck them down in a random way, making the front cover look scruffy and therefore cool.
At the top of the magazine it says ‘FREE CD’ this is one of the main ways to get people to buy the magazine, no matter what the item is people are drawn to things that are free. Also there is a bit more information about what is going to be included in the magazine. This includes two pictures, both close ups of two men looking at the camera with their heads tilted the same way Iggy Pop’s head is, saying they are just as cool as him. Again the words are written in a sans serif font to keep with the fresh unconventional.
There are 4 main colours used in the front cover. Black: this is associated with rock and roll and therefore ‘cool’, this reflects the anarchy image of the magazine. Red: this is associated with danger which draws people in. Grey is associated with metal meaning the magazine is hard and solid. White: this is a quite neutral colour which is also quite modern and clean, this is used as a contrast to the sharp black and red colours going on in the background.
This magazine is like most other music magazines although it is unique in the way they feel they are to distinctive to put titles in lines sections and even show the mast head of the magazine.
